He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph and Pheolmena Saporito (Petrollino); his wife Catherine D. Maxwell; his siblings, Bill, Tony Saporito, Charles, Angelo, Michael, Nicholas Sweet, Rosie Martin, Josephine Tartaglia, Frances Bianco and Pearl Rulewicz; and his parents-in-law, Dennis and Doris Maxwell.

He is survived by : his children, Denice Leone (Michael) of Herkimer, Donna Yager (Tad) of Newport, James Sweet of Herkimer, William Sweet (Laurie) of Newport, Joseph Sweet III of Herkimer and Robert Sweet (Carrie) of Fairfield; his sister Carmella Walawender of Herkimer; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Eric, Jason, Cory, Angelina, Jaime, Brandy, Spencer and Brandon; his close friend Janine Lynch; and his aunt Ann. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

“So sorry to hear about my Uncle Joe passing. He called the house of his brother, Nick the night Nick passed, to say goodbye even though they were across the country. Both brothers came from a huge family that loved to talk loud, eat a lot of good Italian food, and share many laughs. Uncle Joe came from a generation that loved to enjoy life. I will always remember his zest for life and the huge grin on his face most of the time. The Tim Sweet Family in Texas”
