He was predeceased by: his wife Joan Walton; and his children, Gilbert Walton, Jr., John Walton, Debbie Walton and Diane Petticord.

He is survived by: his son Mark Walton. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
