He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Clifford "Mac" and Elizabeth "Betty" McVinney (Platt); his former wife Kathleen "Irish" Rose Dougherty; his wife Kathleen McVinney of Oneonta; his children, Megan (Daniel Fetterman) and Richard (Amber McVinney); his grandchildren, Cassidy, Gavin, McKenzie, Dylan, Cameron Fetterman, Charles and Lillian McVinney; his siblings, Charles and Sarah (Gary Bush); and his children, Tomoko, Mandy and Miguel. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews.
