Carmine Mario Polidoro Obituary
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Carmine Mario Polidoro on Monday, November 21, 2022, in Ozone Park, New York at the age of 89. He was born in Castelvecchio Subequo, Aquila, Italy on February 10, 1933 to Giovanni Polidoro and Antonia (Nina) Paolini.
On June 1952, when Carmine was 19 years old, he left his hometown of Castelvecchio Subequo and departed for Australia.
He lived in Australia for 8 years. Carmine held a variety of jobs in Australia, including working in the sugar cane fields, working on a farm and building a bridge in North Queensland.
He immigrated to New York in May 1960. In February 1963, Carmine went to Italy for his sister Angela's wedding and while there, fell in love with his future wife Flavia Salutari. They were happily married for 59 years.
Carmine was a carpenter in the local carpenter union #926 for most of his career. Toward the end of his career, he built displays for expositions and convention centers. He was an extremely hard worker and very dedicated to his family.
He loved all sports, was an avid skiier as well as a good bowler. He enjoyed watching baseball, the olympics and tennis most of all. Not a day would go by without him reading the paper. He loved keeping his mind sharp by doing word searches.
After he retired, he spent many years traveling throughout the United States with his wife and cherished friends. There were many visits to Italy as well as to Canada and Australia to visit his loved ones
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his sister Leda Buzzelli of Sydney, Australia; his grandson Thomas McCabe of Queens, New York and his son in law, the Hon. Alfonso Stabile of Howard Beach, New York.
Surviving in addition to his wife Flavia, are his children Nina Cancellieri, Carmine Polidoro and Nunzia Stabile, his son in law Giuseppe Cancellieri; and grandchildren Alessia and Joseph Cancellieri and Ryan and Nunziatina McCabe. He is also survived by his siblings Maria Bianchi of Sydney, Australia; Giovanni Polidoro and Angela Battista of Queens, New York.
He was a beloved uncle, cousin, brother in law, and friend to many in New York, Italy, Canada and Australia.
