She was predeceased by: her parents, Arthur Pier Root and Delia Lathrop Ross Root; her husband Mart Van Kirk; her brothers, Arthur P. Root, Jr. and Robert L. Root; her daughter Jean Vittum; her grandson Ian Stewart; and her friends, Jane, Richard Kraham, Rod, Gin Conrad, Bill, Marge Staring, Morrie, Wini Vittum, Willard and Alice Robinson.
She is survived by: her children, Judith (John Lippitt) of Madison, WI, Mart Jr. (Marilyn DeRuyter) of Phelps, NY, Janet Throne (James) of Manhattan, KS and James (Hedy Hollyfield) of Raleigh, NC; her son-in-law David Vittum; her children, Dorothy Van Kirk Wotan and George Stamatiou; her stepmother June Root of Lockport, NY; her sister-in-law Barbara Van Kirk of Seneca Falls, NY; and her grandchildren, Scott Vittum, Megan Malan, Sarah Stewart, Amy Van Kirk, Emma Van Kirk, Kelsey Van Kirk, Evan Throne, Anna Holbrook, Brett Van Kirk, Zachary Van Kirk and Kiersten Weissinger. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, grandsons/granddaughters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
