He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard LaFountain and Helen LaFountain. He is survived by: his sons, Robert LaFountain Jr. of Plattsburgh, Kenneth James LaFountain of Plattsburgh and David A. LaFountain (Gail) of Plattsburgh; his siblings, Richard LaFountain of Arizona, Diane Agnew of Plattsburgh and Patsy Robinson of Plattsburgh; his granddaughter Meagan; his stepdaughter Tami Wood; and his stepgranddaughters, Khloe and Zoe Hutchins of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
