With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Juanita G. Thornton of Portland, New York, who passed away on May 20, 2025 at the age of 98. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Frederic and Ethel; her husband Howard A. Thornton; her granddaughter Sarah Lynn Locke; and her siblings, Agnes Woodrow and Dean Blandin.

She is survived by: her children, Linda Hinds of Copperas Cove, TX, Gloria Kawski of Erie and Gail Thornton Locke (William) of Westfield, NY; and her grandchildren, Libbey Locke, Brian Hinds, Yvonne Minton (Michael) and Hope Davis (Adam). She is also survived by six great – grandchildren and four, great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portland Fire Department 6841 West Main Street Portland, NY.
