He was predeceased by: his parents, Marjorie Weatherby Hughes and Willard Hughes; his son Larry Hughes, Jr.; and his brother Richard Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Lynette Kramer Hughes; his children, Tracy Barney (Terrence), Courtney Marsello (Daniel), Summer Hahn (Phillip Jr.), Paige Wilson (Steven), Brad Hughes (Camella), Stephanie Dean and Givney; his grandchildren, Sean Barney, Shane Barney, Travis Hughes, Tyler Dean, Casey Dean, Madelyn Marsello, Nicholas Terry, Morgan Hahn, Jason Hahn, Quinn Wilson, Emmi Hughes and Kullyn Hughes; his great grandchildren, Lucca and Liam Hughes; his sister Yvonne Elmendorf; and his pet Knucklehead. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
