Buddy Wightman wrote a sympathy message

“Though I hadn't seen George in years, I thought of him often and always fondly. He was sort of a surrogate big brother. I'll remember his sharp sense of humor that was always tempered by kindness and his immense love for his family. My heart goes out to Barbara, Marci, my great friend John, Gary and Donna, and all the others George touched with his light. I'll miss him dearly. Wishing you solace and strength, Buddy Wightman”

“George has left great strength in hundreds of men that had the fortune to have him as a coach. George gave to young minds very valuable teachings, principles, courage and equanimity that will serve them for life. As father of one of these men I am very grateful to George, he gave my son a treasure I would not have been able to give him. His premature departure touches us deeply, George will live in the hearts, memory and actions of hundreds of runners and their families. A great legacy!”

Susana Epstein wrote a sympathy message

“I have learned this sad news with a broken heart. I have been a colleague of George’s for many years at Collegiate and despite the fact that we worked in different departments, we had plenty of opportunities to share stories, discuss school matters, talk about our students and more. George was an amazing mentor figure for teachers and students alike. I always benefitted from his wisdom and sense of humor! He was sorely missed when he retired. My sincere condolences to his family. Susana Epstein”

“George was the first one to arrive and the last one to leave school. He was the most dedicated teacher to his runners. He was also willing to help out anytime. He was the cement that makes a school truly solid. May you Rest In Peace!”
