Theresa Jean (Varone) Shotwell Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Theresa Jean Shotwell (Staten Island, New York), born in Brooklyn, New York, who passed away on August 6, 2022, at the age of 103, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Francesco Varone and Concetta DeVito Varone; her husband Warren Shotwell; and her siblings Alfred, Dominick, Rose, Arthur and Catherine (Carly) all having predeceased her.

She was employed by Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and as a supervisor at AT&T prior to her marriage to Warren Shotwell of Staten Island. She finished her working career at Chubb Insurance in 1979. She and Warren continued living on Staten Island until his death in 1989 when she returned to Brooklyn to live with Arthur and “Carly”. In 1996 Theresa and siblings Arthur, Carly and Rose moved to Staten Island. After Arthur and Carly passed, in 2010 Theresa and Rose moved to Applewood Estates, an independent living facility in New Jersey.. She loved a good novel and continued to take an active interest in current affairs and the world of finance, reading the daily NYTimes. She enjoyed dining and chatting with new friends and family.

She was a thoughtful daughter and sister, beloved aunt and great-aunt and terrific communicator. Her letters and calls to cousins in the US and Italy, kept extended family relationships alive for many years. Her role as aunt to Jerry, Diane, Christine, Robert, Kathy, Frank, cousins Linda, Marie, Stephen, Patty and members of Warren’s family provided precious memories.
We mourn her passing and are so grateful she was in our lives.
