He was predeceased by : his parents, Curtis Mayne and Elizabeth Mayne; and his sister Rosalie Mayne. He is survived by : his wife Donna J. Mayne; his children, Russell L. Mayne Jr. of Watertown, NY, Eric M. Mayne (Anna) of Wake Forest, NC and Colleen E. Mayne-Butler (Richard) of Watertown, NY; his grandchildren, Joshua L. Couglar (Janessa) of Pompano Beach, FL, Baylee J. Mayne of Asheville, NC, Griffin R. Bennett of Watertown, NY, Kyler R. Mayne of Wake Forest, NC, Abigail J. Butler of Syracuse, NY, Sydney E. Mayne of Wake Forest, NC and Max J. Mayne of Watertown, NY; his siblings, Curtis Spike Mayne (Evelyn), Marilyn Nugent (George) and Dana Mayne (Jessica) of Cape Vincent, NY; and his siblings-in-law, Clarence and Judy Woodruff of Watertown, NY.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home Inc. (632 State St, Watertown, NY 13601-2839). A funeral mass was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Holy Family Church (129 Winthrop St, Watertown, NY 13601).

Donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Russell's honor.
