He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack T. Coats and Eleanor R. Lynn Coats; and his siblings, Melanie Folts, Susan Coats and David M. Coats.

He is survived by: his siblings, Eldyn "Skip" Coats (Sue) of Milton, FL, Dennis Coats and Lori Acker of Wellsville; and his nephews, Darrin Coats and Dane Coats.
