With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Henry Horton Jr. (Akron, Ohio), born in Brooklyn, New York, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 7, 2025 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph F. Horton and Lelia Brandon; his sister Barbara Simon; his former wife Peggy Ann Farrington; his sons, Lance Horton and Jeffery "Meeko" Horton; and his close friend Clinton Kennerly.
He is survived by: his wife Valerie Bates-Horton; his brother William Atkinson Sr.; his sons, Glenn Horton and Joseph "Tutu" Horton II; his grandchildren, Jacqui Kennedy, Iniu Horton and Samirah Horton; and his sibling's children, Stella Atkinson-Peay and William Atkinson Jr.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Memorial Page First Apostolic Faith Church (790 Easter Ave, Akron, OH 44307). A burial was held on Tuesday, July 15th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and at 1:15 PM.
