He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Carol and John Cottrill. He is survived by: his parents, John Phipps and Peggy Phipps (Daniels); his brothers, Benjamin Phipps (Melissa) of Orrville and Steven Phipps (Amy Gauld) of Marshallville; his grandparents, Virginia Phipps of Marshallville and Roy Daniels of Albion, NY; and his siblings' children, Lucas, Liam and Madilynn Phipps.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Wayne County Parent To Parent Organization Inc. on Matthew's behalf.
