He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Bretean (Fogoroch). He is survived by: his wife Jackie Bretean (Stahl); and his sons, Cary Murphy (Danielle) of Alliance and Sean Murphy (Vinnet) of Tampa, Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
