He was predeceased by : his parents, Willis John and Madge Hondel (Martin); and his brother Marion Ellis Hondel. He is survived by : his wife Lola M. Hondel (Cisco); his children, Sally Ann Hondel-Roberts (Todd) of Amanda, Robert E. Hondel Jr. of Amanda and Landon Roberts (Alexis Butterbaugh) of Amanda; and his brother Bill Hondel of Zanesville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
