He was predeceased by : his parents, Elmer Alvin Esser and Hazel Dean Williams Esser; and his brothers, Alvin, Butchie and Larry Esser.

He is survived by : his wife Karen Inger Smith Esser; his children, Marie Grundy (Jim), David Esser (Regiane), Teddie Esser (Mike Pheifer) and Benjamin Esser (Regina); his siblings, Danny Esser, Jerry Esser, Linda Sue Esser and Velma Bishop; and his grandchildren, Brooke Esser, Aubree Allen and Zoey Esser. He is also survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
