He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Gilkey and Milda Hudnall Gilkey; his siblings, Virgil, Paul, Kermit Gilkey, Elsie Stanley, Ida Young and Maycel Carsey; and his son-in-law John East.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys H. Well Gilkey; his children, Mark Richard Gilkey, Cynthia Jane East and Tamara Lynn Wolfe; his half-brother Frank Gilkey; and his niece Janet Judson. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
