He is survived by: his brothers, Mike and Billings; his wife Carolyn Sweeney (Neal); his son David Sweeney (Angela) of Moorhead, MN; his grandsons, Jack and Milo; his brothers, Orval Sweeney (Suzanne) of Williamsburg, VA, Ronald Sweeney of Lakewood, CO, William Richard "Rick" Sweeney (Elise) of Lovettsville, VA and Fiddich; and his pet Khaleesi.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Journalism Historians Association Graduate Student Convention Travel Fund in honor of Michael S. Sweeney.
