He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter L. Mathie and Geraldine C. Rohr Mathie; his sisters, Patty Schiller and Nancy Riemenschneider; and his sister-in-law Linda Mathie.
He is survived by: his wife Theta Huffman Mathie; and his siblings, Sylvia Leahy, Sally Heck, David Mathie (Carolyn), Donald Mathie, Dennis Mathie (Rachel), Walter Mathie (Glenda) and Russell Mathie (Sharon). He is also survived by four stepchildren; sixteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
