He was predeceased by: his parents, Rushia Bell Sheffield and Jim Gainer; his wife Bernice Gainer; his siblings, Ned Johnson Jr. (Marie), Tra Johnson (Rock), Henry James Johnson, Gertha Will Johnson, Mary Lizzie Johnson, Essie Mae Gillimore and Ethel Bell Ware; his aunt Claria Estelle Motley; and his cousin Linda Gail Williamson.
He is survived by: his children, Chrystal, Terance, La'Shanta Gainer, Terrance and Duane Gainer; and his nieces, Laurita and Lisa Ware. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
