He was predeceased by: his father Lewis; his son Roger Sale; and his brother Richard Sale. He is survived by: his wife Eleanor Sale; his sons, Kenneth Sale, Mark Sale (Elaine) and Tom Sale (Susan); and his grandchildren, Melissa Edell (Steven), Jeffrey Sale (Jacy), Laura Sale, Matthew Sale, Jason Sweazy (Kristina) and Jeremy Sweazy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lewis's honor to Honor Flight Columbus or the charity of the donor's choosing.
