She was predeceased by: her parents, Estella D. Smith and Young Mitchell; her husband James Thornton Sr.; her siblings, Thomas Brinson, Juanita Brinson and Phyllis Smith; her stepsiblings, Basil Smith and Elizabeth Smith; and her daughter Theresa Ervin.
She is survived by: her children, Sharon Jenkins (late Rufus Jenkins), Brenda Green, James Thornton Jr. and Gary Thornton; and her goddaughter Gwendolyn Ray. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren, along with many relatives and friends.
