He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Gardner and Virginia Gardner; and his sisters, Lisa Knotts (Patricia Diane Gardner) and Delores G. Porter. He is survived by: his daughters, Sylvestine Cates (Elbert), Paulina Manuel (James), Paula Beatty (Edward) and Sharina Head (Carlos); his grandchildren, Acquila, Cierra, Lauren, Courtland, Daxton Cates, Rakim Manuel, Maria Beatty, Carlos, Jr., Cortez and Cortae Head; and his siblings, Esther Seward, James Michael Gardner, Toi Gardner-Harris and Lori Gardner-Bishop (Ted). He is also survived by his step children, nieces, nephews, and friends.
