He was predeceased by: his wife Kathryn L. Spires; his parents, Harry and Mary; and his sister Martha Spires. He is survived by: his children, Molly Dodane, Patty Spires, Jim Spires (Jennifer) and Peggy Faber (Tom); and his sisters, Marie Uhl and Ruth Strickler. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
