He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Schmidt and Ruth Schmidt (Miller); his wife Loretta Schmidt; his daughter Angela Owens; and his grandson Brian L. "Shorty" Moffitt.
He is survived by: his children, Glenda Lindsey (Ben) and James A. Schmidt, Jr.; his brothers, Robert "Bob" Schmidt (Judy) and Theodore "Ted" Schmidt (Frieda); his grandchildren, Brandon Moffitt, Christopher Schmidt, Joshua Schmidt, Breanna Owens, Dakota Owens and Dalton Owens; and his great grandchildren, Kylee Moffitt, Emryk Moffitt, Brennan Moffitt and Lilly Schmidt.
