He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry L. Crates and Florence M. Crates (Byal); his brothers, Daniel L. Crates and James L Crates; his sister-in-law Dorma Crates; and his great-nephew Nathan Crates.
He is survived by: his former wife Doris Rojas; his brother J. Roger Crates (Ruth); his sister-in-law R. Carole Crates; and his nieces and nephews, Brad Crates (Marilyn), Beth Stone (Douglas), Ashley Borgemenke (Scott), Britton Crates (Nancy), Cheryl Ryan (Kyle), Andrew Crates (Leslie) and Ampersand Crates.
