He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Russell and Marcella Bowsher Mayer; and his siblings, Royce Mayer, Norman Mayer and Kathleen Howell.

He is survived by: his children, Russ Mayer of Lima, Kelli Mayer of Lima, Becky Andros (Matt) of Chandler, AZ and Nick Mayer of Lima; and his sister Marlene Howell of Wapakoneta.
