He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Herman Elbert and Clara Smith (Mason). He is survived by: his spouse Gerri Smith (Barrows); his children, Gentry Smith (Michelle) of Chandler, AZ., Trudy Thompson (Mike) of Lima and Jesse Smith (Niki Eisnaugle) of Columbus, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Jake and Ley. He is also survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews.
