He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Kilgore and Thomas L. Smith; his stepfather Alphonsa Kilgore; his children, John Smith Jr. and Jacklyn Smith; and his brothers, Jerry Kilgore, Allen Kilgore and Robert Kilgore of Az.
He is survived by: his siblings, Abdul Jabar Kilgore of Oh, Patricia Kilgore of In, Shirley Faison (Edward) of Oh, Lillian Hatcher of In, David Kilgore of Ky, Craig Kilgore of Oh, Jack Kilgore (Elizabeth) of Tx, Emma King (Melvin) of Ga and Rita Price (Salone); his stepsister Susan Nichols; his brother Kenneth Smith of Ky; his cousin Dorothy Carr; and his caregivers, Shirley Faison and AnnShalea Yelton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
