He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Ralph Gard and Lucie LaVerne Nye Gard; his brother Don Dale; his son Mark Charles Gard; and his stepson Everett Gilmore.

He is survived by : his wife Wilma Mae Nelson Gard; his daughters, Mary McPherson of Gallipolis and Melinda Gard of Athens; his stepdaughters, Kay Gillilan (Howard) of Reedsville and Diana Landers (Charles) of Middleport; his son Michael Gard (Nancy) of Middleport; his stepson Gary Gilmore (Janet) of Langsville; and his sisters, Alice Gard Hill, Janice Sue Gard Smith (Joe) and Marla Jo Gard Faray. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
