He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Gavit and Dorothy Gavit (Goeke); his wife Patricia M. Winner; his brother John Gavit; and his parents-in-law, Sara Winner, Richard "Beetle" Winner and Pamela LaFalce.

He is survived by : his children, Katie, Brett Simon, Erin, Philip Frilling, Joseph and Maura Gavit; his grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Joanna Simon, Johnathan Gavit and Clara Frilling; his siblings, Shirley (Bob Berger), Karen (Virgil Puthoff), Beavercreek, Margaret "Peg" Gavit, Rebecca "Becky" (Hank Pohlman) and Patrick "Pat" (Margo Gavit); and his parents-in-law, Ron, Roger "Pete" Winner, Jane, Jim Hatfield of Glen Ellyn, IL, Susan Winner, Judy Winner, Peter LaFalce of Lexington, KY, Greg and Teresa Winner.
