He was predeceased by: his parents, Raybert Howell and Margaret Howell; and his brother Billy Howell. He is survived by: his wife Nancy; his children, Christina James (Ralph) of Elyria, Carrie Uszak (Brian) of Elyria and Gary Howell Jr. (Terri) of North Ridgeville; his grandchildren, Garrett, Bryce, Caleigh, Andrew and Ashley; his siblings, Roseann Ferrell, Loretta Allen and David Howell (Loretta); and his aunt Libby Harris. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
