He was predeceased by : his parents, Fred Penwell and Mary Lou Crouch (Stookey); his brothers, Marvin Penwell and Freddie Penwell; and his parents-in-law, Lee Roy and Madolyn Jean Hackworth (Boggs).

He is survived by : his wife Nina Genny Penwell (Hackworth); his children, Jeremy Penwell of Pedro, Zachary Penwell of Pedro and Kayla Penwell (Chris Ball) of Ironton; his grandchildren, Karsyn Ball, Madison Penwell, Colyn Ball, Krissa Ball and Presley Penwell; and his siblings, Steven Penwell and Barbara Schiller. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
