William Michael Will Obituary
William Michael "Mike" Will, 77, of Pomeroy, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 30, 2025. He was born August 28, 1947 in Gallipolis, OH to the late William Lewis and Juanita Thomas Will. He was a life-long resident of Chester Township, growing up and living on the Will Farm for most of his life.
Mike graduated from Eastern High School in 1965. He attended The Ohio State University before transferring and graduating from the University of Rio Grande in 1970, majoring in education.
Mike was a teacher for 22 years, beginning at Barlow Vincent Elementary in Washington County, before coming home to Eastern Local, where he briefly taught Jr High mathematics before settling in at Chester Elementary, where he taught 6th grade and Elementary Math as well as serving as Head Teacher for a number of years.
In 1995, he left teaching, returning to his first and longest career, a brick and block mason. He grew up doing this, learning from his father Bill. Many homes and buildings in Meigs County had their foundations, basements, chimneys and fireplaces built by Mike, who was an expert at his craft. He made many friends along the way and taught several young apprentices the proper way to mix mortar. Among those friends were The Buckley Boys (Kevin & Bryce), Marlin Evans, and Eric Smith. Despite his expertise in masonry construction, after falling in love with the Rocky Mountains, Mike built a log cabin in 1984, where he resided until March of this year.
After his father's passing, Mike continued the family farm, raising Hereford cattle, for several years. He spent many hours on his Massey Ferguson while on the farm, usually with one or both sons riding on the fenders. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the farm.
Mike was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, listening to them on the radio whenever he could. He also followed The Ohio State Buckeyes and could be heard from miles around arguing with the referees through his television.
He raised beagles for nearly 30 years. He always wanted to plant a big garden and over the years planted many fruit trees and berry bushes on his property. He was delighted to know that the blueberry crop was quite bountiful this year.
Mike was a long-time member of the Shade River Masonic Lodge, being a 3rd degree Master Mason. He was a former hunter safety instructor and coached baseball. He was also a former Fiscal Clerk for Chester Township.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law Edward Wyers; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Scarbrough; special friends Joe Bailey & Ron Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marcella Louise Wyers Will, his sons who each carry one of his names, William Aaron Will of New Albany, and Michael Adam Edward Will (Christina) of Pomeroy; his beloved grandchildren: Lilliana & Lincoln Will of New Albany, Libby, Sophia, David, Philip, & Vivian Will of Pomeroy; devoted sister Drusilla Sue (Jerry) Wysong of Thornville, OH; loving brother Daniel Thomas (Julia) Will of Pomeroy; a special brother-in-law Les Scarbrough; sister-in-law Mary Kathryn Wyers (Mike) Donahue; an extended family of cousins, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces & nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 4th from 1-4 at Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday July 5, 2025, at 11 AM with visitation an hour prior. The service will be officiated by Mike's son, Pastor Adam Will. Burial will be near the family farm at Mount Hermon Cemetery, with a meal to follow afterwards at Mount Hermon Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike's memory to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH, where several of his grandchildren received care. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Overbrook Rehabilitation Center and Amedisys Hospice for providing compassionate and skilled care during Mike's last months. And a special thank you to Dr. Watson and nurse Jenny for their years of care and for making a special office visit to Overbrook.
