He was predeceased by: his parents, Neville L. Bales and Lillian Alice Bales (Overhalser); his siblings, Fred Bales and Nona Bales; and his children, Bobby Austin and Elizabeth Bales.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Bales; and his children, Annette McClean, Ted Austin, Gary Lee Bales (Jann), Jim Austin (Julie), Cynthia Schmid (Robert), George Austin (Jessica), Jeffrey Austin (Tammy) and David Bales (Maria). He is also survived by his 34 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the New Testament Baptist Church Missions Fund, 3583 State Route 59, Ravenna, OH 44266.
