He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Chatman and Clarence Erwin; and his wife Earlene Erwin (Mayfield). He is survived by: his children, Monte Erwin (Jocelyn) of Toledo, Tonya Erwin of Toledo and Emmanuella Erwin; and his grandson Ja'mez Young.
