He was predeceased by: his parents, Allyn D. Schmitz and Lillis Schmitz (Bartlett); his great grandchild Aiden; his parents-in-law, Richard and Irene Champion; his sister Shirley; and his brother-in-law Bob Tefft.
He is survived by: his former spouse Beverly Champion; his wife Bev; his children, Tammy Saul, Steve Schmitz (Angie), Robbie Gilsdorf (Jodi) and Thad Gilsdorf (Shauna); his grandchildren, Melanie, Sarah, Grant, Justin, Nathan, Devin, Jessica, Robbie, Dylan, Paris, Maicie, Brodie and Xander; his great grandchildren, Lexie, Logan and Kane; and his siblings, James Schmitz (Betse), Suellen Kern (Terry), Richard Schmitz (Patty), Geri Anne Tipton (Doug), Kevin Schmitz (Carol), Lori Stinson (Barry), Gary Estes (Mary) and Bill Champion (Barb). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
