He was predeceased by: his wife Esther Oswalt; his son Robert Clair Oswalt Jr.; his parents, Arthur Marion and Ida Irene Oswalt; and his siblings, Clyde June Oswalt, Marian Rosalie Price (Verlin), Donald Lorain Oswalt, Richard Ellwood Oswalt, Ronald Keith Oswalt, James Arthur Oswalt and Judy Luanne Oswalt.
He is survived by: his daughter Nancy Gruber (Daryl); his daughter-in-law Dot Oswalt; and his sister-in-law Miriam Oswalt.
