He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Clinton, Jr. and Mary Patricia Shellhammer (Johnson); his son Robert Clinton IV; and his brothers, John Andrew and Joseph Patrick.

He is survived by: his children, Claude Andrew, Christopher (Jesse), Timothy (Kasey) and Joseph; his siblings, David (Catherine), Michael Shellhammer (David) and Sherri (Clinton); and his sister-in-law Lily. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
