He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney S. Cottrell and Katherine Cottrell (Kossman); his niece Amanda; and his brother-in-law Bob Lutman. He is survived by: his siblings, Kevin Cottrell (Rita), Denise Lutman and Scott Cottrell (Dawn). He is also survived by five nieces; three nephews; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
