He was predeceased by: his parents, Asa Van and Mary Newman (Lancaster); his siblings, Donald Newman, Lawrence Newman, Mildred (Newman), Maurice Newman (Julia), Roseann (Newman), Frazier (Titus), Theresa Newman, Leonard Newman (Maude) and Paul Newman (Ruth); his wife Virginia; and his son Asa V. Newman, Jr..
He is survived by: his sibling's children, Rae Ellen (Campbell), Kathy Newman, Cheretta (Moore), Paula Newman, William, Butch, John Newman (Angela), Maurice "Ricky" Newman and Raymond Frazier (Angela); and his great-nephews, William Hughes (Robin), Marty Hughes (Kyllan) and Edward Hughes (Fatina).
In 2020, despite a Global pandemic, the owner of the local Home Instead organization organized a 102nd birthday celebration, in his honor.
