He was predeceased by : his parents, Warren J. Brechtel and Dorothy Brechtel (Siben); his former life partner Dorothy M. Brechtel; his stepson Heath Hartline; and his brother-in-law Gary Nischwitz.

He is survived by : his wife Marilyn Hartline-Brechtel (Nischwitz); his stepchildren, Dawn Troyer (Joe), Holly Schultz (James), Marty Slone, Jr. and Michael Slone; his daughter-in-law Randi Hartline Durham (Jim); his stepgrandchildren, Alli Pierce (Lance), Emma Norris (Drew), Rachael Smith (Peter), Lydia Adamson (Isreal), Kayla Feighner (Scott), Abbey, Brandon Troyer, Harrison, Hayden Hartline, Michael, Wendel, Jacob Slone, Samantha Slone, Zachary and Sarah Schultz; and his siblings-in-law, Dick Pavlak, Ron Nischwitz and Phyllis Nischwitz. He is also survived by friends, as well as numerous other relatives and many friends.
