He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sherman Smith and Geraldine Greer (Garrett); his stepfather L. D. Greer; his son Jerry; and his siblings, Donald Greer and Teresa Mead.
He is survived by: his wife Connie Smith of West Union; his children, Sonja L. (Bill), Audra A. (John), Bonnie "Suzie" (Jim), Crystal J. (Rob), Mark A. (Roberta), Kelly D., Sean C., Scott L. and Jeff H.; and his sister Carol Hartsock. He is also survived by several grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
