He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard B. Gibbons and Bernadine Darr Gibbons; and his brothers, Herbert Gibbons and Janes Gibbons. He is survived by: his wife Susan C; and his children, Richard B. Gibbons (Gibbons II), Tony Stanley, Sandra Sue Boyd, Kimberley Stanley and Brigitte Taylor. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
