He was predeceased by: his parents, Fuller Lanning and Mary Lanning (Colgan); his parents-in-law, Alexander and Cleda Stiers (Quimby); his sister Nancy Smith (James); his siblings-in-law, Bonnie Roush (Albert Schenk), Sidney Stiers and Bernard Wheeler; and his nieces, Debbie Best and Lisa Dickinson.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Lanning (Stiers); his children, Jeffrey J Lanning and Staci Ann Palmer (Richard); his grandchildren, Dr. Amanda Palmer, Brad Palmer (Caroline), Gianna Palmer, Kyle Lanning, Bouns, Edward Davis (Rebecka), Tony Burgess (Melissa) and Logan Parker; his great grandchildren, Wyatt and Luke Palmer; his sisters-in-law, Kay Wheeler and Sandy Stiers; his sibling's children, David Smith (Ellen), Marty Smith (Lynn), Keith Best (Becky), Doug Wheeler (Lisa), Dan Wheeler (Debbie), Greg Stiers (Debbie), Shelley Cipolla (Paul), Tammy Edwards (Robbie) and Tina Edwards (Troy); his pets, Teddy, Heddie and Tater; and his nephew Reverend Michael Smith (Mary).
