He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Ellis and Tommie Irene Smith (Brock); and his siblings, Patricia Bryant, Beverly "Bobi" Smith and Howard "Hoss" Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Patti Guebara and Russell Smith; and his siblings, Dale Smith, Becky McNeely and Judy Smith Rodriguez.
