He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee Petty and Man Lue Petty (Hubbard); and his siblings, Fred Petty, Buck Petty, Billie Dee Petty and Willie Mae McKinney.

He is survived by: his children, Johnnie Petty Jr. of Krum, TX and Yvette Laird (Jeff) of Krum, TX; and his grandsons, Johnnie "Trey" Lee Petty III of Denton, Wyatt Petty of Aubrey, Ty Laird (Josie) of Waco and Bryson Laird of Krum. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
