He was predeceased by: his parents, Basil Green Sowells and Ruby Helen Dobson Sowells (Leigh); his stepfather Cecil Leigh (Linda Sowells); his son Billy Joe Sowells; and his brother Leon Leigh.
He is survived by: his children, Tana Welsh (Ed) of Claremore and Jolie Pressler (Waylon) of Tulsa, Oklahoma.; his siblings, John Leigh, Beulah Wells, Racheal Updegraff and Bobby Leigh; his grandchildren, Brad Sowells, Heather Dark, Tara Bunney, Brynnan Sowells, Jessica Alley, Jordyn Welsh, Amanda Willinger, Krista Carrico and Sierra Cheyenne; his great grandchildren, Braden, Lauren, Jaxon, Jaylen, Hayden, Hudson, Aiden, Zac, Braxton, Kennedy, Marshall, Kole, Kale and Kyler; and his niece Carol Rice.
