He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ernest Welch and Ruby Welch (Akin); his wife Mary Ann Welch of Durant, Oklahoma; his children, David (Mercedes Welch) of Fredericksburg and Bethany (Ron Erickson) of Durant, Oklahoma; and his sisters, Bobbie Hart of Antioch, Illinois, Elizabeth Jane (Gus Velarde) of Emory and Glenda Stockwell of Abingdon, Virginia. He was also cherished by five grandchildren.
